Dining Room with Final Decor and Shutter Windows

Image
Here are the final photos of the dining room.  :-) The café shutters came at the recommendation of the window lady who came out to give me a bid on the blinds.  I had never thought of doing shutters but when she left, I looked up all kinds of shutter photos on the internet and instantly fell in love!  What do you think?    You can open them, close them, and adjust the louver slats.  For the corner vignette, I put a small up light behind the tree so at night it lights up and really gives some nice ambiance.  The café shutters closed…… I just loved this shot of the lilies with the clay walls  in the background.  I wish you guys could come visit so you could see how the clay affects a room!  There you have it!  The final decorated dining room photos

House Tour part SIX–the Downstairs

Image
I saved the best for last!  OK, I really didn’t do that.  The downstairs is pretty much my husbands, along with the garage.  It will have his arcade games, his big TV, his office and the leather couch he picked out.  I suppose I get to add a little decorating flair to it, put really, it’s his.  He plans to add a pool table at some point in time. But I can’t just skip it so here it is!!! Pool table some day (area) Area for his “games” I guess his office is pretty cool, but I think it’s because I did American clay in it UPDATE! I finished decorating it!!! Here are some AFTER photos and to see the entire post please see HOW TO SPICE UP YOUR BASEMENT   That is it for the official HOME TOUR !  Next, I’ll start all the decorating and start showing you some fun stuff! Be sure and check out Tour # 1-5 if you missed any!  Just enter House Tour in the search box

House Tour Part FIVE–the Upstairs and Kids Rooms

Image
Let’s go upstairs! At the top is a little homework desk for the kids: We’ll drill a hole and put a grommet on the top of the desk for a computer. Kids Bathroom: Up close of mosaic tiles (yep, just ignore the fact that I can’t seem to figure out how to take a picture without me in it ) Laundry Room: Kids Rooms: I’ll just show one of my kids rooms.  Not decorated they all kind of look the same.  This one is my favorite though, the house designer made all the kids rooms up in the rafters of the house so they have those fun low angled walls.  Oh, it will be fun to show you this room finished!!!! That’s the upstairs!  I have a lot of decorating to do. (long sigh, I’m tired!!)  Give me a little while but I promise I’ll have a bunch of fun posts with all the completed rooms.

My House is FINISHED!!! The Home Tour Part 1 - Rustic Entry and Dining

Image
Well, the day has finally come that we get to LIVE in our NEW HOME!  Excited would be an understatement……. Shall I give you the tour?   I just wish I could offer you a glass of wine while we “walk” through it. I’ll do this in two (or 3,4,5) posts  because I took a gazillion pictures and I think there might be a rule about having more than 50 pictures on one post.  Maybe  House Tour Part 1: (It’s not decorated yet my friends…..give me some time!!!) The entry: (for those that have asked about the Tuscan Door be sure and check out the post) The entry looking up: Remember the doorbell chime box I bought?  Totally fits in with the theme. Stepping back looking at door: Matching iron work! The Dining room: (OK here is a sneak peak of it filled with the furniture!  I'll have another full post on that!) Looking into the dining from the iron grille window : ...

Make your own Topiary Balls the DIY way!

Image
I found these strange iron balls at a thrift store for $1.00 a piece.  When I took them up to the registrar I asked what they were and she said they were some sort of sweater loom so I am guessing you could probably buy them at a quilt shop or something. After I looked at them for a while (wondering what I could do with them!) I thought turning them into topiary balls might look really cool.  I bought a pack of those punch balloons at the dollar store and some moss at Michael’s craft store for $9.00 (used 40% off coupon) and went home and started to work. HERE’S HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN.   First put the balloon IN the iron and blow them up almost to full capacity (leave a little room for moss).  Tape down the ends that stick out. Next tear up some newspaper and make a solution of 70% glue 20% water and 10% flour.  (this does not have to be exact!)  Dip in the strips of newspaper and layer them on the balloon.  Let them dry COMPLETELY. This shou...
