Unique Thrift Store Treasures to Accessorize Your Home

Image
Hello Friends ~ Some of you that have been around a while know I have a slight addiction to thrift store shopping.  As of lately, I've been trying to work on this and NOT tempt myself with the treasure hunt only because I do not need any more "things".  But just the other day, I found myself pulled into my favorite thrift store and found a few fun treasures. I'll admit, I'm not positive what this is, but I'm hoping it's a teapot. (at least that is what I'm calling it) :-) I absolutely love anything with a rustic pottery look that has a great patina. I have collected so many things like this that my china hutch is FULL of unique thrift store finds. This is just one section of my hutch......everything you see there was from a thrift store for pennies!  The teapot cost me $1.00 I'm also a fan of anything carved out of dark wood.  This bowl was full of wooden fruit that I added to a different wicker bowl......being...

Favorite American Clay Jobs - Before and After Showcase!

Image
Happy Friday Everyone! I have been doing an American Clay project all week long.  I'll take the final "after" photos some time today but here is a sneak peak of all the colors I used - I had fun mixing and being "artistic" on each wall. 1) Savannah moss (it was actually more a brown than green) 2) Chesapeake Bay (very blue/grey) 3) Snow Canyon  (clay in it's natural whitish state) Since I have American Clay on my mind, I thought it would be fun to do a post on some of my past clay projects.  A little Before and After Showcase. :-) Before ENTRY with Colorado Red Clay - skip troweled After Tuscan Gold clay over concrete walls (this was an all green thermal mass home). After (such a pretty glowing color) One of my favorite clay projects was this guest room.  She wanted me to "age" the fireplace hood and then paint a true fresco of an antler.  It was HUGE (or else I just have a tin...

It's a Kid's Christmas - Decorating and Gift Ideas

Image
Well this year I LET MY KIDS do the decorating.....was this hard for me??  (hee, hee)  Yes :-) OK OK, just the tree......my husband and I left one night to go Christmas shopping and when we came home.....the tree was fully decorated in all it's glory......I didn't even touch it.   So this year we have a candy cane "infested", school ornament decorated tree.  :-) It's  actually pretty.....just not how I would have decorated it :-)  Their FAVORITE part is the candy canes that they weaved throughout the branches.  (Why is candy so fun for kids?) :-) Every year, we go to our friend's house for a Christmas party and the she gives each of my kids a special ornament that they can add to their collection for when they have their own family.  (My mother in law does this too.)  They have some of the funniest ornaments ever!  They LOVE collecting them! This is my friends Christmas tree (the one who hosts...

Tuscan Bronze Pfister Bathroom Faucet Giveaway! Make Your Bathroom Standout!

Image
I am super excited about this giveaway because Pfister faucets are so stinkin cool. :-) I have been working with the Pfister Company and they sent me a faucet to review. I am absolutely in love.....and I was already in love with my last faucet so, well, not sure what kind of homeowner I am getting rid of something I loved only to upgrade to another love - ha!   As far as quality goes, it's heavy duty and just what I would expect from a good quality faucet company. Let the pictures begin! I chose this faucet because it was unique.  In fact, it has become a conversation starter because guests walk out of the bathrooms saying, "I love that faucet!"   What sold me was the fun waterfall spout.  This faucet is from their Ashfield collection . Now that I think of it, I haven't really shown you guys my full completed guest bathroom (other wise know as the powder room) yet! This is my thrift store plate collection. You can see how ...

Decorating With a Monochromatic Color Scheme - Rustic Chic Style

Image
My friend Lynda (who did the amazing faux painted carriage doors) sent me this gorgeous photo and  I immediately knew what my next post would be about! Rustic Chic Home Decor in Monochromatic Colors! I absolutely love the picture below.  Did you notice that they mix the old (salvaged barn wood) with the new (sparkly chandelier) along with a monochramatic color sceme?   They call this design style RUSTIC CHIC or FARMHOUSE CHIC.   via glasshousedesign.net To get the look of Rustic Chic you generally decorate with salvaged/reclaimed wood along with natural elements (think nature or greenery) and then add a few more modern or glam pieces and there you have it!   In general, it is very monochromatic except for the green accents created by nature. Can you spot in this picture the old mixed in with the new?  This time the natural elements are wooden sticks and antlers! Restoration Hardware And...

How To Use Barnwood To Create a Room Full of Character

Image
Barnwood Barnwood Barnwood.   I honestly think I could never get tired of it. Barnwood or any salvaged wood has so much TEXTURE and creates such interest in a space that it seems wherever and however you use it, you can't go wrong.   Just look at the eye candy below. This lovely room casually put the barnwood along ONE accent wall.  Notice how the greenery breaks up all the monochromatic colors in the room. Barnwood beams are quite popular.  I really enjoyed how this couple used the old barnwood but then updated it with some modern touches too.  It keeps you guessing and wanting to see the rest of the home!   Never be afraid of being ECLECTIC!  Mixing textures and design styles can create a room with character and interest. A lot of this bedroom below has a modern spin, but then the salvaged pine wood adds an instant age factor to the room .   Now that I see it with the textured pine, I can't imagine it loo...
