Corrugated Metal for Home Interiors - Heavy Metal Versus Classical

Image
Hey Friends, In the past, when you saw corrugated metal you probably only thought about a barn or shed roof - right? Well, when you have ambitious DIYers and daring designers a new trend emerges and you have corrugated metal for the INTERIOR! I love the added texture it brings to a room! Corrugated metal is inexpensive and you can use it new or SALVAGED. (I prefer salvaged as it comes with so much aged character.)  Using the metal indoors can have a huge impact for not a lot of money when in the hands of a creative DIYer. Of course this blog is all about STIRRING those creative juices  so let me show you some of my favorite uses of the corrugated metal (-: How about this very rustic kitchen bar -  with all the aging going on, I'm guessing they used a salvaged piece.   photo: inspirationgreen.com How about putting it on the CEILING? :-) In this guest bedroom they used galvanized metal wainscoting.  Personally, I ...

Image
Hi Friends! For those that have been reading my blog for a while know that I HIGHLY value being able to pull off a fantastic look for not a lot of money.   So, in this post I want to show you some very simple ideas that you can apply to achieve a designers touch without breaking the bank. :-) Tip #1 Spray paint can be your best friend and bring items that you thought were dead to life again!  I have turned many ugly lamps into something updated and beautiful.  Don't be afraid to spray paint  the frames of outdated mirrors or other picture frames for an updated look. My "go to" spray paint color is Krylon's Oil Rubbed Bronze. (you can't go wrong!)  For those that enjoy color, take a piece of furniture that has seen better days and spray paint it a fun, bright paint finish. Gretchen from The Crafting Chicks took this old brown hutch and spray painted it Cherry Red :-)  If tackling a large item like a hutch wor...

Ideas on How to Use Stone Veneer on an Interior Wall.

Image
I personally can't get enough of bringing natural outside elements into the inside of a home .  Clay, rocks, greenery, water.....you name it, if I can bring it inside and I have the budget, I will! So today's post is some DECADENT eye candy regarding bringing stone (whether real or veneer) inside your house!   At first you might think, oh, I could never do that, or isn't it super hard?   Well actually no, it's not!  Lowes put on a super simple YouTube video showing an easy way to do a stone veneer interior wal l, but really, just think about it.......it is the same principle as adding tile to a wall.....not hard at all and the OUTCOME? Oh my, Gorgeoso! Mediterranean Entry by Los Altos General Contractors RJ Dailey Construction Co. It wouldn't need to be a huge area in your home, what about just doing ONE accent wall like the one below in your master bedroom? Or how about something like this one small wall in the di...

Ideas for Computer Niche or Spaces.

Image
Hello Friends! Let me tell you, finding a space to hold your computer is becoming such a vital part in home design.   When we were in the designing stages of our home, there was NO space allotted for my computer.  I just plainly stated to my husband that we had to find a spot or my lovely computer would be sitting on top of our dining room table for the rest of eternity. :-) We honestly did not have money to add another square inch to our floor plan, so we had to figure a solution utilizing the space that was already there. Previously, the end of that bar was just a solid wall. We were able to squeeze out just enough space to make a sliding pocket door computer niche. It's not a perfect spot (due to the fact that the back door is right behind me!) but it sure beats the computer sitting on the dining room table for the next 50 years. ;-)   Isn't that the cutest adjustable chair (below)  I had a different ch...

One of the Beautiful Homes I did in American Clay

Image
I just found out that one of my favorite rustic homes I did just went on the market.  I would say the style was pretty much North Idaho meets Italy :-) I had SO MUCH fun working for this client and as you can tell with these photos, I got a lot of inspiration from her house for my own…..just not millionaire style!  ha! This is on the market right now for a little over 5 million.  Yep, I’m going to have to wait till about 50 of my ships to come in for that one!  Enjoy the photos.  It got voted HOUSE OF THE WEEK from the Wall Street Journal's real estate section.  (That is a really big deal.....it showcases homes from all over the world.) Exterior of her home, all made from real rock, not the “out of the box” stuff.  It overlooks Lake Coeur d’ Alene  the 7th most beautiful lake in the world according to National Geographic. Gorgeous dining room with doors that completely fold open to the deck and the lake. This bat...
