Late Night Decorating–Fireplace Mantle and Piano Recital Music


Oh boy, it’s started……all the decorating!!!


I LOVE this part, but at the same time it can be frustrating, especially when you are by yourself and it’s 11:30 at night. 


All I can say is that if you have a friend, invite them over when you are trying to place pictures and do a collage.  You need them to say “to the right, or to the left a little!”  What happens to me is I climb on the latter, insert object, climb down, realize it needs to be moved over 3” and try again. (and again and again)   We will NOT discuss how many holes I have in my walls……no we wont!

Actually I had it like this first (minus the violin) but I have such a love for music I thought adding the violin just felt right.  (The violin was mine as a teenager until I forgot I put it on top of my car and drove away only to hear something fall off the car – ummm lets just say, no violin can survive that! My sweet mom was way more understanding than I would have been!)

I did paint that picture myself, someday, it would be fun to buy a big original from a “true” artist :-)

I store all my piano and violin music in the cupboards and have the iPod docking station there for music.  I love my Baroque station :-)  It makes me feel like I am in an Italian Villa or something :-)





And since I am talking about music, I just can’t leave without putting my kids really fun recital pieces on the blog (you guys know I don’t usually do this “personal” stuff) but for those of you who are interested, stop by and listen!  The kids get such a kick out of any comments or “likes” on their songs.

French Furniture Painting w/ Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Blue

Do you guys like entering giveaways?  I try to enter them because wouldn’t it be fun to win?? Well I DID win some chalk paint from Southern Hospitality’s Blog by Stylish Patina the other day.  (super cool, I checked and I was 1 out of 250 – wow!)  Anne Sloan Chalk Paint So I get this chalk paint and wax in the mail and to be honest with you I had NO IDEA what this stuff even was???  I totally had to research on the internet and hope to find other blogs that have used it.  I did – actually a LOT of bloggers have written posts on it, one of my favorites was Perfectly Imperfect .  I guess this stuff is the HOT product on the market. Want to know why????? There is NO need for SANDING OR PRIMING your furniture piece before you start!!! Pottery Barn Knockoff–Distressed Clock Decor

Ahhhhhh Pottery Barn.  The gorgeous pictures, the GIANT price tags.  If only we could re-create for less everything we see in that magazine.  Well today’s post will give that a try  – Pottery Barn for under $10.00.  Yep, that’s right, this next project cost me around 6 bucks.  When I was at the thrift store I spotted this lonely round board.  It was almost 2 feet around, insanely heavy and covered in laminate but I thought hummmm……this has some CLOCK potential!  So I bought it for a whopping $1.50. Here is the lovely BEFORE picture: And here is the AFTER: Now how I got there.  :-) First I distressed the plastic and wood by sawing the edges, hammering the center, and quickly sanding the entire circle.  I didn’t spend a lot of time doing this because I had another idea to help with the distressing which you’ll see in the next few steps.
